South African Fire v.2

Former Chicago Fire first-team players Carlos Bocanegra and DaMarcus Beasley as well as former Fire Premier players Jonathan Spector, Brad Guzan, Ricardo Clark, and Jay DeMerit all made the final 23-man US World Cup squad.  And of course Bob Bradley was the first Fire coach and a member of the Ring of Fire.  On to South Africa!

Tournament time

The girls' high school soccer tournaments are well under way.  The Class 1A semifinals start this Friday, and the Class 2A and 3A tournaments have finished the first round.  OPRF bounced Farragut 7-0, but Fenwick went home after losing to Morton 3-2.

Derby Day!


Tomorrow is derby day in Oak Park, as the girls' varsity soccer team from Oak Park River Forest High School (7-6-1) hosts Fenwick High School (9-8-1).  The schools are down-the-street neighbors, separated by three blocks on East Avenue.  The Friars will be looking to avenge the Huskies' 3-1 win during the Pepsi Showdown last season.  Kick off is 6pm under the lights at the OPRF stadium.
